No Clear Advantage Between IOL Types in Uveitis

A randomized controlled trial at Sahlgrenska University Hospital found no significant differences in inflammation, visual acuity, or cystoid macular edema between hydrophobic and hydrophilic IOLs in cataract surgery for uveitis and non-uveitis patients. Six months postoperatively, flare levels and CME rates were similar between groups. Both IOL types improved corrected distance visual acuity, indicating no clear advantage of one material over the other in uveitic patients.
