Additionally, he experienced a stiff neck, muscle cramps, and fatigue. Vital signs were within normal limits, and both central and peripheral nerves showed no abnormalities upon examination. Laboratory results indicated a potassium level of 1.7 mmol/L, with sodium and chloride levels within the normal range. The diagnosis was paralysis due to hypokalemia. Treatment involved the administration of potassium chloride, 25 meq, through slow infusion diluted in 0.9% sodium chloride over 8 hours in six separate administrations.
