A 6-year-old girl was suffering from a year-long history of a waxing and waning rash on her limbs and face. Initially, the rashes are red scaly bumps that fade over several weeks leaving smooth white spots. After a few months, the patient gets several new red bumps again. The rash is neither itchy nor painful. A physical examination reveals scattered erythematous scaly papules on both legs and several hypopigmented macules on her legs, arms, and face.
