Cow’s milk allergy

A young man was diagnosed with Cow’s milk allergy (CMA) in his first month of life and is now 20. He was breastfed until his 14th day of life when CM infant formula was started. He began experiencing repeatable episodes of widespread urticaria, ocular angioedema, and vomiting two days later, around 30 minutes after each meal. He was hospitalised to the hospital and given a soy formula that he tolerated well and has continued to take for years. He experienced many instances of unintentional ingestion of hidden. The allergy workup performed included skin prick tests (SPT) which were positive for whole CM, casein, α-lactoalbumin and β-lactoglobulin, and so were specific IgE (Table). He was given a special treatment protocol. He was instructed to consume 200 mL or more of CM every day, always after eating and without engaging in strenuous activity for the next two hours. Eight years after the treatment protocol, he was symptom-free of asthma and rhinitis.
