A 65-year-old female patient suffered from end-stage renal disease (ESRD). She was on peritoneal dialysis (PD)and reported shortness of breath for three days. The PD catheter stopped draining in the last five days. The peritoneal fluid was found to be cloudy. It was collected and sent to testing for cell count, Gram stain, and culture. PD fluid cell count reported a white blood cell (WBC) count of 209/ µL, neutrophil count of 72%, red blood cells (RBC) count of 2337/µL, and Gram stain revealed >100 WBC/low power field.
