A 67-year-old woman was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus four years back and is currently on a maximal-tolerated dosage of Metformin (2000 mg/day). Unfortunately, her glycaemic levels for the past few weeks have not been controlled well with only Metformin. Her weight is 70 kg, and her BMI is 26.6 kg/m2. She needs a suggestion for another oral antidiabetic drug. She has osteoporosis, had a recent episode of fragility fracture, and is currently on calcium, Vitamin D, and bisphosphonates to prevent further fractures. She is a lean, frail-looking female who stays alone in a flat and manages her other daily activities by herself.
