A 28-year-old female, currently in her third trimester of pregnancy, presents with a chief complaint of fatigue, excessive tiredness, weakness, and shortness of breath during physical exertion. She had three successful pregnancies, all of which were normal vaginal deliveries at term. The patient also gives H/O pica. The symptoms have been progressively worsening over the past three months. The patient reports that she gets tired quickly while performing domestic chores. However, she denies experiencing any associated chest pain. The patient mentions experiencing constipation during her current pregnancy but does not report any other significant medical history. Laboratory investigation revealed hemoglobin levels of 6.0 g/dL, serum iron of 26 ug/dl (30 - 193 ug/dl), serum ferritin of 20 ug/L (30 ug/L), serum transferrin of 400 µmol/L (49.40–122.76 µmol/L) and percentage saturation of 5%.
