<p>A 52-year-old man has a history of GERD and has been experiencing heartburn symptoms for at least five years. He initially used over-the-counter antacids but eventually sought medical care from his primary care physician. Despite being prescribed an H2 blocker and proton pump inhibitor therapy, his symptoms persisted, and he currently takes 20mg of omeprazole daily. Gastroscopy showed signs of erosive reflux lesions, and the MII monitoring revealed elevated acid and non-acid reflux episodes associated with heartburn and regurgitation symptoms. The patient reported a severity score of &quot;7&quot; and an impact on daily life score of &quot;7&quot;. The patient was then started with sodium alginate solution. The use of twice-daily sodium alginate solution (Gaviscon) resulted in a pH or MII monitoring that showed a decrease in overall reflux episodes (n = 46), including a significant decrease in acid (from 84 to 17) and non- and weakly acid (from 44 to 29) reflux episodes and the subjective score for limitation on her daily life both decreased to&nbsp;&quot;3&quot;.</p>
