Acidity and gastric problems include acid reflux (GERD), gastritis, indigestion and bloating. They are often linked to meal timing, spicy or fatty food, stress, smoking and some painkillers. Most improve with lifestyle changes and medicines; frequent symptoms need a doctor's check.
A general physician can treat occasional acidity. A gastroenterologist is advised for frequent or long-lasting symptoms.
Occasional use is generally fine, but daily long-term use should be reviewed by a doctor to find and treat the cause.
An endoscopy may be advised for warning signs, symptoms over 45 years of age, or symptoms that do not improve with treatment.
