A seizure (fit) is a sudden burst of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Epilepsy means a tendency to have repeated seizures. Most people with epilepsy control their seizures well with regular medicines under a neurologist's care.
A neurologist diagnoses and treats epilepsy and seizures.
Usually an EEG and an MRI of the brain, along with blood tests.
Keep them safe from injury, turn them on their side, do not put anything in their mouth, and time the seizure. Call emergency services if it lasts more than 5 minutes.
