An 18-year-old female, complains of feeling weak, tired, and unable to perform her daily tasks for the past few months. She disclosed experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding over the last six months, breathlessness, and palpitations when climbing stairs. While not fainting, she occasionally felt light-headed. She also noted leg cramps and a strange urge to chew ice.
Medical History: She had no history of fever, drug use, or abdominal pain but had lost her appetite and ate only once daily
Vitals: During the examination, she had a rapid heartbeat, pale gums and nails, and a swollen tongue.
Lab investigation: Blood test revealed low red blood cell count (3.5 million/mm³), low hemoglobin levels (7 g/dl), low hematocrit (30%), low serum iron, low mean corpuscular volume (MCV), low mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and high total iron binding capacity in the blood (TIBC).
