A 2-year-old male child was brought to the otolaryngology department to be evaluated for
recurring otitis media. He experienced nine episodes of purulent otitis media, starting at 8
months of age, and the most recent occurrence happened just a month ago. The child was
treated with antibiotics (Azithromycin, Cephalexin, and Amoxicillin) and oral corticosteroids
each time. Although he recovered from these treatments, he continued to experience recurring
symptoms such as a runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, and an itchy nose. His family
history included his father being allergic to cats and his older sister experiencing recurring
symptoms of rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction, sneezing, and nasal pruritus at least once a week.
Although he had no history of atopic dermatitis, his mother reported that he occasionally
experienced mild wheezing. The child was tested for atopic status using skin prick tests,
which showed positive results for mites Dermatophagoides pteronissinus and Blomia
tropicalis.
