A 32-year-old woman was sent to the hospital with an enlarged left thyroid gland and a history of erythropoietic protoporphyria. The referring doctor had identified a thyroid gland tumour in the left lobe with a maximal dimension of 5 cm. Both computed tomography and ultrasonography revealed a smooth and well-defined tumour form. The thyroid gland was removed via lobectomy utilising the video-assisted neck surgery (VANS) technique through a 3-cm skin incision. The patient's neck was draped to reduce exposure to ambient light and no surgical light was employed.
