Exhaustion, breathlessnes...

A 53-year-old man experienced exhaustion, breathlessness, and a fever of up to 40°C two days after attending an active lecture. His test for SARS-CoV-2 infection using a throat swab came up positive. Despite receiving oxygen, he was 90% hypoxic at admission. The patient was stable upon discharge, had no fever, and had normal C reactive protein (CRP) levels. Four days later, the patient returned to the hospital complaining of excruciating pain in multiple lower extremity joints. The right knee, both ankles, and the lateral side of the left foot all experienced pain that started soon after he was released from the hospital. The patient was unable to walk as a result, and he could hardly even stand. The patient had elevated acute-phase reactants (CRP peaked at 327 mg/L, total leucocyte count was elevated to 13.6×109 cells/L).
