HEARING LOSS

A 64-year-old guy in good health with perfect pitch perception who worked as a violinist was forced to quit his job due to depression. His depression did not improve after a six-month course of treatment with the tricyclic antidepressant nortriptyline and oxazepam. Lithium was added, and his depression was gone within two months, but he still had to take the recommended prescription. The patient went back to playing the violin. The male choir's sound director called his attention to the fact that he was consistently playing too low and with the wrong intonation while recording with a church organ. He made repeated attempts to increase the purity but was unsuccessful, and his request to continue performing was denied.
