A 12-year-old girl with asthma was brought to the emergency room because she had been having trouble breathing, coughing, and wheezing for three days. On the day of admission, she woke up feeling like she couldn't breathe, and her lips were blue. When she arrived at the ER, her oxygen saturation was 85% and her respiratory rate was 40 breaths per minute. Her chest x-ray showed hyperinflation and no focal abnormalities.
