Right hip pain

A 5-year-old boy who has been limping and experiencing right hip pain for the previous month presents to the hospital. The patient's mother became concerned when she saw his symptoms because the child had no evident wounds. According to the mother, the youngster has not recently experienced a viral infection, fever, chills, or sweats. Except for the limp and the sporadic complaints of hip pain, the child appears to be acting normally. Physical examination reveals that the patient's hip abduction and internal rotation on the right side are slightly less than on the left. He does not have different-length legs. Hip radiographs are taken (Figures 1 and 2).
