
Patients with moderate to severe psoriasis that has failed to be controlled by topical therapy (applied directly to the skin) or ultraviolet light often require more intensive treatment. One such treatment is the oral drug fumaric acid esters (FAEs), which has been in use for at least 30 years, especially in Germany. A range of injectable drugs (‘biologics') have been developed more recently that target particular molecules involved in psoriasis inflammation.
