A Comprehensive Examination of Autistic Traits and Health Factors in Adults

In a study addressing the limited knowledge of cardiovascular risks in autistic adults, researchers found that metabolic syndrome (MetS) was more prevalent among females with higher autistic traits compared to those with lower features (10.0% vs. 7.5%). No significant difference was observed in males. For both genders with higher autistic traits, MetS correlated with poorer self-reported health, reduced physical activity, and altered leukocyte counts. The study emphasizes the importance of cardiovascular prevention in adults with elevated autistic traits and suggests the need for gender-specific insights and tailored prevention strategies.
