The study sheds light on bipolar disorder's heightened suicide risk, with rates up to 20 times higher than the general population. An analysis of 53 bipolar disorder patients using wearable devices has unveiled the role of autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction in suicide attempts. Results indicate a significant increase in respiratory rate among those with a history of suicide attempts, even after adjusting for age and mood state. This suggests broader ANS dysregulation, potentially contributing to illness burden and cardiovascular issues.
