This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dapagliflozin, exenatide, and their combination on reducing albuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes and microalbuminuria or macroalbuminuria. The study involved 20 patients who completed three 6-week treatment periods with dapagliflozin, exenatide, and their combination. The primary outcome was the percentage change in urinary albumin: creatinine ratio (UACR), with secondary outcomes including blood pressure, HbA1c, body weight, and renal haemodynamic variables. Results showed that all treatments reduced albuminuria, with the combined dapagliflozin-exenatide treatment group having a numerically larger reduction. Systolic blood pressure, body weight, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were also reduced in this group, while renal blood flow and effective renal plasma flow (ERPF) did not significantly change with either treatment regimen. However, reductions in ERPF were observed in most patients in the dapagliflozin and dapagliflozin-exenatide groups.
