Macrophages are key players in the immune system with two distinct types, M1 and M2. M1 macrophages promote inflammation by engulfing pathogens and secreting pro-inflammatory cytokines, whereas M2 macrophages have anti-inflammatory roles, promoting tissue repair and tumor growth. Beyond their immune function, macrophages contribute to organ and whole-body homeostasis, influencing processes in various tissues, including endocrine organs like the adrenal gland, where they regulate endocrine function.
