The study examined the effects of insulin resistance in adipose tissue and fatty liver on impaired glucose metabolism stages. Over 2.9 years, adipose insulin resistance (Adipo-IR) was associated with increased risk of progression from normoglycemia to prediabetes and prediabetes to type 2 diabetes. Fatty liver was crucial in type 2 diabetes development, while visceral fat mass and LAP had no significant impact on glucose metabolism deterioration.
