Adrenal cysts: an emerging condition

Adrenal cysts are rare, usually benign lesions that account for about 1-2% of adrenal incidentalomas. They can be difficult to distinguish from more serious conditions like phaeochromocytomas and malignant masses. Adrenal cysts are classified into different types based on their histology. They have a similar appearance to kidney cysts on radiological imaging. Most adrenal cysts are asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally. Conservative management is typically recommended, but very large cysts can cause mass-effect symptoms and may require surgery. Additional work-up or follow-up may be necessary if the benign nature of the cyst is uncertain.
