Interstitial Lung Abnormalities (ILAs), often detected incidentally in chest CT scans, have a higher prevalence than previously thought, affecting 10% of the population, as revealed by a comprehensive review of 22 studies encompassing 88,325 participants. Risk factors for ILAs include male gender, older age, and low FVC%. Alarmingly, ILAs are associated with increased mortality. These findings emphasize the importance of standardized screening and management strategies, particularly in the post-COVID-19 era. The review underscores the potential overlap between ILAs, Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). While promising, the study acknowledges the need for further research in this critical area.
