
The study analyzed data from 130,254 postmenopausal women, it was found that early menopause correlated with shorter leukocyte telomere length (LTL), a marker of cellular aging. This association was stronger among those with natural menopause. Mendelian randomization revealed a causal link between genetically predicted LTL and earlier age at natural menopause. The study suggests accelerated telomere shortening may contribute to heightened cardiovascular risk in premature menopause cases, emphasizing the importance of understanding these mechanisms to develop preventive strategies.
