Age-stratified risk factors of re-intervention for uterine fibroids treated with high-intensity focused ultrasound

In a retrospective cohort study at Nanchong Central Hospital, 672 uterine fibroid (UF) patients underwent high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) between June 2017 and December 2019. Out of 401 patients completing a median 47-month follow-up, 12.46% required re-intervention. Age played a significant role, with a 17.5% re-intervention rate in those <45 years and 7.7% in those ≥45 years. Younger patients with hypo- or iso-intensive fibroids faced increased risk (OR 2.96, CI 1.37–6.62; P = 0.007), while anemia elevated the risk for re-intervention in older patients (OR 3.30, CI 1.01–10.37; P = 0.041).
