A recent study in the CREDO-Kyoto PCI/CABG registry Cohort-3, encompassing 14,867 patients undergoing first-time coronary revascularization (2011-2013), delves into the impact of peripheral artery disease (PAD) on long-term mortality post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Of the 3380 patients with severe coronary artery disease, 461 had PAD. Results reveal a significantly higher 5-year mortality (31.2%) in PAD patients compared to those without PAD (16.2%). Notably, PCI posed a greater all-cause mortality risk than CABG, accentuated by non-cardiovascular deaths. These findings underline the critical consideration of PAD in cardiovascular interventions.
