This study evaluated the impact of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i), glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor analogues (GLP-1RA), and their combination (SGLT2i+GLP-1RA) on the 5-year risk of all-cause mortality, hospitalization, and cardiovascular disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The analysis involved a retrospective cohort of 2.2 million people with type 2 diabetes receiving insulin across 85 healthcare organizations. Propensity score matching was employed to balance the cohorts, and the results showed that all three intervention cohorts exhibited a reduced risk compared to the control cohort across various outcomes. Combination therapy yielded the greatest risk reduction in all-cause mortality. These findings suggest that SGLT2i, GLP-1RAs, or their combination provide cardiovascular and mortality protection for individuals with type 2 diabetes over 5 years.
