Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) pathology is tied to brain metabolism decline in cognitively impaired individuals with Alzheimer’s. A study of 829 participants found α-syn seed amplification positivity (SAA+) led to widespread hypometabolism, independent of amyloid and tau levels. These findings highlight α-syn’s role in disease severity and its potential for optimizing Alzheimer’s clinical trials.
