A recent study reveals a significant rise in vision screening rates for children aged 3 in an extensive healthcare system, post-2017 photo screening expansion. The screening rate surged from 5.7% in 2015 to 72.1% in 2022, indicating positive outcomes. However, disparities persist, with Asian, Black, and Hispanic children less likely to be screened compared to their White counterparts. While the availability of photo screeners improved overall screening, targeted interventions are crucial to bridge the remaining gaps in amblyopia care. The study emphasizes the importance of early detection to prevent permanent vision loss in children before age 7.
