An overview of reproductive carrier screening panels for autosomal recessive and/or X‐linked conditions

A comprehensive study reveals significant variations in reproductive carrier screening panels. These tests aim to identify couples at high risk of passing on genetic conditions to their children. The study examined 22 panels, finding a total of 2205 unique genes, with only 15 genes common to all. These shared genes are associated with severe conditions. Surprisingly, the study uncovered a wide price range for these panels, from $349 to $4320 per couple in 2023, with no significant correlation between gene count and price. These findings highlight the need for ongoing research and monitoring in the field to ensure accurate, up-to-date information for clinical decision-making.
