Anemia and idiopathic intracranial hypertension: a prospective study

A prospective study has found a significant association between anemia and idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), a condition affecting young women with obesity. Out of 143 IIH patients, 30 had anemia, with some cases classified as severe. However, there were no significant differences in demographic or visual measures between anemic and non-anemic groups. Notably, patients with moderate to severe anemia were more likely to require surgical treatment. The study recommends routinely testing IIH patients for anemia due to its relatively high incidence.
