Anterior Center-Edge Angle Is Less Reliable Than Anterior Wall Index to Predict Anterior Coverage of the Femoral Head

A recent study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine aimed to determine the most accurate radiographic measurement for anterior coverage of the femoral head. The researchers analyzed 77 hips from 48 patients using radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans. They found that the anterior wall index (AWI) had a strong correlation with total anterior coverage (TAC) and equatorial anterior acetabular sector angle (eAASA). On the other hand, the anterior center-edge angle (ACEA) showed a weak correlation with these measurements. The study also suggested that other variables, such as lateral center-edge angle (LCEA), acetabular version, and pelvic tilt, could help predict anterior coverage in asymptomatic hips.
