Biochemical recurrence (BCR) in prostate cancer patients remains challenging, affecting one-third of cases post-primary treatment. Next-generation imaging (NGI) is proving to be a game-changer. Recent studies reveal NGI's superior sensitivity in detecting local and metastatic recurrences compared to traditional methods. Notably, NGI, including PET radiotracers and multiparametric MRI, can spot BCR at prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels below 2.0 ng/ml, with detection rates ranging from 46% to 50%. Medical authorities in Europe and the US now recommend NGI for BCR patients.
