Approaches to improve and adapt maternal mortality estimations in low‐ and middle‐income countries

A recent study sheds light on crucial methods to estimate maternal mortality in LMICs where vital registration systems are lacking. The study, conducted from January 2013 to March 2023, examined 19 studies focusing on data completeness, subnational estimates, and community involvement. Results suggest that combining data from multiple sources, including public and private health facilities, the community, and local authorities, yields more complete maternal mortality estimates. Additionally, community engagement in data collection enhances awareness and reduces costs. Household surveys with community involvement and the RAMOS method offer valid and cost-effective solutions.
