Aquatic Therapy Accelerates Recovery in Elite Athletes with Grade III Ankle Sprains

Ankle sprains are the second most common sports injury, predominantly affecting the lateral ankle ligaments in sports like basketball and volleyball. The study investigates the effectiveness of Aquatic therapy versus land-based exercise in rehabilitating elite athletes with grade III acute lateral ankle sprains. Thirty elite athletes were randomly assigned to either Aquatic therapy or conventional physical therapy. Results indicated that Aquatic therapy significantly reduced pain, improved dynamic balance, athletic performance, muscle power, and accelerated return-to-sport time compared to conventional therapy. Aquatic therapy is recommended for early rehabilitation of grade III ankle sprains in elite athletes.
