
The study aimed to examine Doppler parameters of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) and the umbilical artery (UA) in fetuses with transposition of the great arteries (TGA) and assess their potential use in predicting the need for urgent balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) in neonates. The study included 159 fetuses with TGA and 1300 age-matched normal fetuses. The results showed that MCA PI, UA PI, and cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) values in fetuses with TGA usually fall within normal limits throughout pregnancy, and the presence of small coexisting ventricular septal defect (VSD) does not significantly affect the Doppler parameters. MCA peak systolic velocity (PSV) increases in TGA fetuses after 35 weeks of pregnancy, and its value measured in the last prenatal study may serve as an additional predictive factor for urgent BAS.
