Assessment of the Cardiac Noncoding Transcriptome by Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Identifies FIXER, a Conserved Profibrogenic Long Noncoding RNA

A new study has made progress in understanding the role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in heart health. By analyzing the expression of lncRNAs, the study identified a specific lncRNA called FIXER that plays a key role in fibrosis, the formation of scar tissue in the heart. Silencing FIXER reduced fibrosis and improved heart function after heart damage. The study suggests that lncRNA expression can define different cell types in the heart and identifies FIXER as a potential therapeutic target for treating cardiac fibrosis.
