A study investigated the impact of dose escalation of intravenous anesthetics on short-term outcomes in adult patients with refractory status epilepticus (RSE). Analyzing data from a Swiss medical center (2011-2019), researchers found that despite increased morbidity in patients receiving escalated doses, the odds of death were decreased (odds ratio 0.09) without worsening neurofunctional outcomes in survivors. The study suggests that anesthetic dose escalation in RSE may be associated with improved survival without compromising functional outcomes.
