
This cross-sectional study involving 6,053 participants explored the link between serum remnant cholesterol levels and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) severity. The study found that higher remnant cholesterol levels were positively associated with mild (OR: 1.730) and moderate-to-severe (OR: 2.342) hepatic steatosis. The association persisted even in individuals with normal triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C). The findings suggest that elevated remnant cholesterol is an independent risk factor for more severe NAFLD, emphasizing the importance of monitoring individuals with higher remnant cholesterol for NAFLD.
