Presarcopenia and sarcopenia, conditions characterized by muscle weakness and loss of muscle mass, are associated with an increased risk of fractures, according to a retrospective study using the UK Biobank cohort. The study, which evaluated muscle strength and mass in over 387,000 participants, found that individuals with presarcopenia and sarcopenia had a higher risk of fractures and major osteoporotic fractures than those without these conditions. These findings suggest muscle health plays a significant role in fracture risk, particularly in middle-aged individuals.
