Association between serum anion gap and acute kidney injury after coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with ACS

A recent study investigated the link between serum anion gap (SAG) and acute kidney injury (AKI) post-coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in acute coronary syndrome patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The adjusted model indicated SAG as an independent predictor of AKI after CABG, with a J-shaped relationship between SAG levels and AKI risk. Risk increased by 26% for each unit rise in SAG above 11.58 mmol/L. Quartile analysis demonstrated varying AKI risks across SAG levels. The study concludes that SAG levels correlate with AKI risk post-CABG, emphasizing the need for further investigation into underlying causes.
