Association between short-term blood pressure variability and target organ damage in non-dialysis patients with CKD

A study investigated the link between short-term blood pressure variability (BPV) and target organ damage in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Participants were categorized based on their variability levels. Those with higher variability showed increased prevalence of target organ damage, regardless of average blood pressure levels. As CKD progressed, short-term variability increased. Multivariate analysis revealed higher odds ratios for target organ damage associated with both systolic and diastolic BPV. The findings suggest that short-term BPV independently contributes to target organ damage in Chinese non-dialysis CKD patients, regardless of mean blood pressure levels.
