This article systematically reviews the correlation between dry eye and sleep quality. Twenty-one studies involving 419,218 participants were analyzed. Dry eye sufferers exhibited worse sleep quality, longer sleep latency, and higher risks of inadequate or excessive sleep compared to healthy individuals. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores were significantly higher in dry eye subjects. The risk of sleep disorders, insufficient sleep, and excessive sleepiness were notably elevated in those with dry eyes. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) scores were also significantly higher in dry eye patients. Overall, the meta-analysis suggests a strong association between dry eye and poor sleep quality.
