A study involving 33 hemodialysis patients and 33 healthy controls investigated cerebral blood flow (CBF) changes and white matter in hemodialysis patients over three years. Compared to controls, hemodialysis patients showed increased cerebral watershed white matter hyperintensities (WMH) in various regions. Patients with decreased CBF had higher baseline CBF than controls, falling over time. Those with decreased CBF exhibited more severe development of deep WMH than the increased CBF group. The study concludes that WMH in hemodialysis patients progresses with treatment duration, and CBF changes can manifest as both increases and decreases.
