Association of Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 with Blood Pressure in Primary Proteinuric Glomerulopathies

A recent study conducted by the Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network (NEPTUNE) reveals a significant association between elevated fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) levels and cardiovascular risk in individuals with proteinuric glomerulopathies. The study analyzed data from 204 adults and 93 children over a median of 42 months and found that higher baseline FGF23 correlated with increased systolic blood pressure and greater odds of hypertensive blood pressure over time. These findings emphasize the potential of FGF23 as a therapeutic target for reducing cardiovascular disease in proteinuric glomerular disease.
