
A recent study involving 4054 patients undergoing coronary angiography identified strong and independent associations between two key biomarkers, red blood cell distribution width (RDW) and hemoglobin-to-RDW ratio (HRR), and contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI). Patients who developed CA-AKI exhibited higher RDW and lower HRR levels. Multivariable regression models confirmed these associations, indicating that both high RDW (≥13.8%) and low HRR (<8.9) were significantly correlated with an increased risk of CA-AKI. These findings emphasize the potential value of monitoring RDW and HRR for early CA-AKI risk identification in patients undergoing coronary angiography, contributing to better patient outcomes in cardiovascular care.
