The study aimed to investigate the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) on unilateral vocal fold immobility (UVFI) in 207 adult patients at a tertiary-care hospital between 2018 and 2019. Sociodemographic factors like gender, household income, language preference, and insurance type, as well as clinical factors including UVFI causes, Voice Handicap Index-10 scores, laryngoscopic findings, and intervention history, were analyzed through retrospective chart review. Results showed no association between sociodemographics and time to presentation. However, higher household income correlated with more interventions and longer care at a private hospital. Other factors influencing intervention type and timing were gender, age, glottic gaps, and VHI-10 scores.
