Associations between perioperative sleep patterns and clinical outcomes in patients with intracranial tumors

A recent study examined the relationship between perioperative sleep patterns and clinical outcomes in 110 intracranial tumor patients. Findings revealed that preoperative blood glucose was linked to more awakenings, while post-operative nausea and vomiting increased with reduced deep sleep time. Anxiety and depression were also negatively associated with deep sleep time. Higher complications correlated with frequent awakenings, and shorter post-operative stays related to less deep sleep. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index showed longer sleep onset latency and less deep sleep. These results highlight the importance of addressing perioperative sleep quality for improved clinical outcomes.
